New Lynn Community Youth Wushu Classes: A Successful Initiative Benefiting Our Community

2024

At NZ Wushu, we are committed to helping and enriching the communities we serve. We’re proud to announce the successful completion of our New Lynn Community Youth Wushu Classes, made possible through the generous support of Sports Waitakere. This initiative offered heavily subsidized classes, removing financial barriers and making Wushu accessible to local youth. Held in a community space, the sessions allowed participants to experience the physical and mental benefits of Wushu, including improved fitness, self-confidence, and self-defense skills.

This program was about more than just martial arts—it was about fostering personal growth, resilience, and promoting active lifestyles. The positive feedback from students and parents reinforces the value of such programs, and we’re excited to continue working hard to bring more subsidized Wushu classes to other communities in the near future.

Kameron Li IWUF Wushu Taolu Athlete of The Year 2022 NZ Wushu Academy NZL.jpg

IWUF Wushu Taolu Athlete of the year 2022 Award - Kameron Li (NZL), of NZ Wushu Academy

2022

In New Zealand, Kameron Li is the best in his specialty, long weapon, attaining first place in the 2022 New Zealand National Wushu Competition and being the only one to have a score above 9.0. He also led his school team in the New Zealand Interschool Competition to 1st place, promoting the growth of wushu in New Zealand. Previously, he got valuable experience participating in the 7th World Junior Wushu Championships in Brasilia, and the 15th World Wushu Championships in Shanghai, in Qiangshu. This year, Kameron attended rigorous trainings despite doing university entrance exams, and he worked hard to prepare in Qiangshu and Jianshu for the world stage in Indonesia, pushing through injuries and other difficulties. Thus, his 8th place in the 8th World Junior Wushu Championships is very meaningful for the young athlete. Kameron remarked that it is really a great coincidence that he celebrated his 18th birthday the day before his Qiangshu event on the 8th of December and got 8th place in the 8th World Junior Wushu Championships!
